it has been something of an open secret in fashion circles for weeks. But today it was confirmed: the British designer, Giles Deacon is to join the French fashion house of Emanuel Ungaro, as creative director.
Deacon, 40, will present his first ready-to-wear collection for the brand at the Paris spring/summer prêt-à-porter season in October.
A Central Saint Martins graduate, Deacon launched his own brand in 2004, after working for two major Italian luxury brands, Gucci and Bottega Veneta, in Milan.
He was named Best New Designer of 2004 after debuting his first collection at London Fashion Week, and received the top fashion “oscar”, Designer of the Year, in 2006.
In 2009, he scooped the prestigious French ANDAM Grand Prix.
Deacon is renowned for a playful, irreverent approach to contemporary glamour. Apart from designing his own label collections, he also does a capsule collection, called Gold, for the British high street retailer, New Look.
