It appeared Elvis had not, after all, left the building, as Northumbria University’s BA graduates took to the catwalk at Graduate Fashion Week. Bejewelled and studded white leotards, ‘trapeze artist bodysuits’ and catsuits were worthy of The King at his Las Vegas best.

Elsewhere, the bling bling theme and dazzling prints reinforced the attitude of ‘more is more’, as in the days of the late, great Gianni Versace. Nathalie Murray, Sophie Dee, Faye Chamberlain, Gemma Williamson (if a little TOO McQueen/ecclesiastical) and Charlotte Boden’s ‘volcano’ imagery all punched home the message that if you are going to work in print, don’t tread softly.

Bold, knock-you-for-six colours work in funky sportswear, too; as in Ledina Zhang’s one-seam, one-size-fits-all, super-sportswear, square-cut in grey sweat-shirting, with striped knit pieces and ruffled “garter” trims.
